Dr. Steven J. Jackson (University of Otago, New Zealand) will be giving a presentation focused on the relationship between sport, beer, and masculinity within contemporary commercial culture.
Dr. Jackson is a Professor specialising in the socio-cultural analysis of sport. He is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario and the University of Illinois, Urbana- Champaign. In addition to his post at Otago Steve has served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Jyvaskyla (Finland), the University of British Columbia (Canada) and the National Taiwan Normal University. Steve’s research focuses on globalisation, national identity and the media. His current research projects include: Sport, Alcohol, Gender & Promotional Culture; Globalisation, Sport & Corporate Nationalism; The cultural politics of the Haka; and Sport& Foreign Policy in a Globalising World. Steve is the new President of the International Sociology of Sport Association (ISSA), 2008-2011.
